Engaging Youth in the Fight against Corruption A YouTube campaign As part of the Greece-OECD project, a key goal of communications was to increase youth’s awareness of corruption issues, generate community responsibility amongst youth in Greece and encourage action on how to prevent corruption.
A strong youth movement in the country only can remove corruption and each student should take a vow to begin this exercise courageously. Presently, India figures as the seventh most corrupt country in the world according to Transparency International’, a non-government German Organization.
Consequently, the primary agents of socialization such as the family, school and community continue to play a pivotal role and denounce any effort of corruption. Youths must continue to translate the values which were inculcated through these agents of socialization and the values must be translated from generation to generation.
Fighting Corruption. Corruption undermines human development. It diverts public resources away from the provision of essential services. It increases inequality and hinders national and local economic development by distorting markets for goods and services. It corrodes rule of law and destroys public trust in governments and leaders.
Engaging youth is essential for success in curbing corruption; youth represent a significant portion of the population (especially in developing countries) and are generally more open to social change and political transformation, since they may have less interest in maintaining the status quo.Learn More
