Several ways of measuring SES have been proposed, but most include some quantification of family income, parental education, and occupational status.
Socioeconomic Status is mostly defined as a combined measurement of the work experience of an individual’s or their family’s economic and social state in relation to others based on their income, their education, and their current occupation.
A person’s socioeconomic status encompasses educational, financial, and occupational factors. The socioeconomic status of an individual is a way of measuring how hard they work in their lifespan. If a person has a low socioeconomic status, that results in low educational successes.
Many researches have defined socioeconomic status in many different ways however for the purpose of this paper I will be using the definition by Chapman and Ryan (2005, pp 497-498); “In Australia socioeconomic status is measured on wealth defined by home postal address, family wealth, personal assets and parents educational background”.
